The Master Bedroom: Painting

ceiling ceiling
Getting Started: So finally, at the end of August 2007, when the killer heat wave finally broke, I began work on the Master Bedroom. First I had to wash the walls, then remove the carpet, the backing, and the carpet tacking strips from the floor. I also pulled off the baseboards so they can be refinished, and then put back on once the new floor tile has been laid. Next I had to patch the wall, especially the big holes where I removed the curtain rods, and the bottom of the wall that suffered water damage from the the leaky shower. Directly above are before and after shots of the southwest corner showing the ceiling getting painted and the spackling getting primed. Below is a shot showing things as I began the clean up and carpet removal.

Painted:So by September 14, 2007 the ceiling and walls of the Master Bedroom are painted. I still need to paint the molding around the doors and windows, and the doors themselves for that matter. I think I will paint the metal holding the glass in the windows, if I can find an acceptable metal paint. Next comes a new floor and refinished baseboards, plus a new bed. I will also need to build a new bookcase. Moving the big dresser around as I worked (you can see it, minus its tall mirror, shouded in plastic above) I discovered it can only go where it has always gone, which pretty much determines where the bed has to go, which determines where everything else can go. So basically, nothing is going to change much. Well, maybe the saddle will go somewhere else, even though I can't think just where that might be.

It took another week to finish the windows, and a good thing too. It is supposed to rain tomorrow. I'm a Southern Cal gal and don't paint when it rains.

I figure the high humidity means it won't dry very fast, and I can't leave the windows open to let the fresh air in and the paint fumes out. My sis-in-law, Anne thinks this is perhaps the most absurd thing of all the absurd things I have ever said. But then, she lives in Seattle where you have to be willing to do everything when it rains, or you would never get to do anything at all.
