A proper name or a dictionary word or words make a weak password: hackers have tools that easily discover such things. Thus if I enter francine in the Password Checker it is rated as weak, as is a phrase such as thegreatest. Including numbers and both upper and lower case letters, plus other keyboard characters (such as punctuation) will improve the security of your password. The thegr8test gets a medium rating, and TheGr8test! is rated as strong. Your password should also be at least 8 characters long, and longer is better. One pretty standard recommendation is 10 characters. The password I'mTh3Gr8est1! earns a Best rating. Also, keep in mind that things that could easily be found out about you, such as your phone number or birthdate, should not be used. The really good password I came up with is actually something one could remember--I just sort of redid this simple declaration: I'm The Greatest One! I left out the spaces, substituted the number 3 for the vowel e in the, and the number 8 for the letters e a t in great (same sound), and the number 1 for the word one, and kept the apostrophe and exclamation mark. Result is a strong password which is still memorable. |
