Note 1: Crop


Notes *1 Almost every picture can benefit from cropping the image to a tighter composition. or to format the image to a specific size or purpose. This may be a good time to set the resolution for the intended output. Quite often horizons or verticals need to be straightened.



Another way to straighten and crop a photograph. Load original image, duplicate the image, Image: Duplicate Image. The new file will have copy appended to it. Enlarge the window (drag the lower left corner) so there is Canvas area showing around the picture. Turn the grid on. Select, Image: Rotate: Free Rotate Layer. Elements will propose to rename the Background Layer, Layer 0. Layer 0 is selected and you can rotate it using the Grid for alignment. Once the Layer has been straightened, choose the Crop Tool and crop the image.
